North Delhi Police say 193 arrested in four-day Operation Chakra drive

North Delhi Police said they arrested 193 people and registered 154 cases during Operation Chakra, held across the district from August 24 to 27.

The drive targeted alleged offences involving illicit liquor, narcotics, illegal arms and gambling. Police said teams from police stations and other units conducted checks, patrols and surveillance at locations across the district.

In Excise Act cases, police said they arrested 63 people and seized 10,122 quarter bottles of alleged illicit liquor, along with a car they said was used to transport it. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the liquor had been brought from neighbouring states for distribution in Delhi, police said.

Police said 21 people were arrested under the NDPS Act. The reported seizures included 1.9kg of ganja, 544g of charas, 39.2g of heroin, 240 buprenorphine tablets and 500 Avil injections.

In 22 Arms Act cases, police said they arrested 22 people and recovered three country-made pistols, two live cartridges, 22 knives and four two-wheelers reported stolen.

Raids linked to alleged gambling led to 50 cases and 87 arrests, police said. Officers recovered Rs 1.6 lakh described as stake money, two mobile phones and playing cards.

DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt said the operation used intensified checks, patrols and surveillance to identify people police suspect of criminal activity.
