One killed, five injured after SUV hits tree on Atali-Korali Road

A 37-year-old man was killed and five people were injured after an SUV crashed into a roadside tree on Atali-Korali Road in Gurgaon on Tuesday afternoon.

The man who died has been identified as Manish, a resident of Khedi Kalan. Police said he was seated in the rear of the vehicle. The five other occupants — Om Prakash, Rinku, Yogesh, Sunil and Omveer — were unconscious after the crash and were admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

The SUV, a black Scorpio, was heading towards Korali and was returning from Tappal in Uttar Pradesh. CCTV footage from the area shows the vehicle approaching at speed before it struck the tree. The impact badly damaged the vehicle, while local residents helped pull those injured from it.

Tiggaon police said they have not registered an FIR so far and found no indication of drunk driving. Investigators are yet to determine whether speeding or another factor led to the collision. The vehicle was later removed from the road using a towing van.

The crash is a reminder of the risk posed by high-speed driving on local roads, where a loss of control can leave occupants with little protection even in larger vehicles.
