Satya Niketan collapse: families wait outside AIIMS Trauma Centre

Krish waited outside AIIMS Trauma Centre for hours on Sunday for news of Abhishek, his school friend from Varanasi who was injured in the Satya Niketan building collapse.

Both are second-year BCom students at Motilal Nehru College. Abhishek had been living in a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan for two years, while Krish lives with his family in Ghaziabad. Krish said a friend who had seen Abhishek inside the hospital told him that his condition was critical and that doctors were preparing him for a CT scan. Abhishek’s parents were travelling from Varanasi.

Other families also waited outside the trauma centre, where access to the emergency ward was restricted. Jasraj, uncle of an injured student named Anuroodh, said he had seen his nephew once and was relieved to learn that he was stable. He said there were 10 to 12 injured students in the ward.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited AIIMS Trauma Centre on Sunday to review treatment being provided to people injured in the collapse.
