Palam records 58mm rain; thunderstorms forecast in Delhi

Palam recorded 58mm of rain in the three hours after 5.30pm on Tuesday as an evening spell of showers reached parts of Delhi. Janakpuri received 7.5mm in the same period, while Pushp Vihar had logged 3mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning for Wednesday, with rain likely to continue until Friday. No colour-coded weather warning has been issued. Rain is unlikely over the weekend.

Delhi’s maximum temperature reached 36°C on Tuesday, two degrees above normal, while the heat index touched 42.2°C at 2.30pm. Wednesday’s maximum is expected to stay between 32°C and 34°C. The minimum was 27.8°C, and is forecast to fall to around 23°C to 25°C over the next two days.

Air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with an AQI of 113, compared with 116 a day earlier.
