Panvel civic body says it will expand testing and mosquito control

Panvel Municipal Corporation said it will strengthen malaria testing, increase fogging and insecticide spraying, and introduce swine flu testing at all its primary health centres.

A Shiv Sena delegation led by Panvel Mahanagar Pramukh Prathamesh Soman met PMC Health Department officials on August 30. The delegation said it had surveyed primary health centres and private hospitals, and alleged an increase in dengue and malaria cases. It also raised concerns about reported swine flu infections and said some primary health centres needed better malaria-testing facilities.

PMC officials said malaria testing would be strengthened across the municipal area. They said the administration would place a proposal for additional staff before the General Body.

The Shiv Sena unit set September 15 as a deadline for the measures discussed at the meeting, saying it would launch an agitation if they were not implemented.
