Panvel RTO warns autos, buses against Ganeshotsav overcharging

Auto-rickshaw and passenger bus operators in Panvel have been warned against charging commuters above prescribed fares during Ganeshotsav travel to Konkan.

The Panvel RTO said it could take action under the Motor Vehicles Act over complaints of overcharging, misconduct with passengers or traffic-rule violations. Rickshaw drivers have been told to carry valid vehicle documents, avoid exceeding passenger capacity and park without blocking traffic at railway stations, bus stands and other busy hubs.

Bus operators must keep emergency exits, fire extinguishers and first-aid kits in working order. Drivers have also been cautioned against driving under the influence of alcohol or driving dangerously, while operators have been asked to plan departures to limit congestion.
