Gurgaon: Tau Devi Lal Stadium pavilion roof section collapses

A section of the cricket pavilion roof at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38 collapsed around 7.15am while players and yoga participants were at the premises.

No one was injured. Rainwater, mud and debris had made the area below the damaged section unsuitable for practice, and it was not in use when the roof section came down.

People associated with the stadium said the pavilion is about 20 years old and that parts of the building have deteriorated over time. They said repeated monsoon rain and waterlogging had added to the damage.

The stadium hosts district-level events and regular sports practice.

A Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority spokesperson said the collapsed section was part of an old structure damaged during the monsoon. GMDA said it will repair the affected portion.
