PayPal cuts about 600 India jobs, including at Bengaluru hub

PayPal has reportedly laid off about 600 employees across its India offices, including its Bengaluru hub, in a reduction that affects technology, engineering, operations, payments and finance teams.

Employees were informed during a call on the morning of August 31, after which their access to company systems was immediately revoked. One affected employee said there had been no prior notice and that staff from offices across India joined the call.

Those affected have received off-boarding emails, job-search assistance and one month’s salary as severance pay. Some employees were informed by email.

PayPal runs software development and operations centres in Bengaluru and Chennai, described as its largest technology centres outside the US. Teams at these centres work on areas including payments platforms, cloud infrastructure, mobile products, AI, data science and blockchain.

The reported India cuts follow a smaller round of layoffs in Ireland and come amid the company’s restructuring and greater focus on AI-driven operations and cost reduction. The number of Bengaluru employees affected has not been specified.
