Peacko unveiled as Delhi prepares for BWF World Championships

Peacko, a peafowl-inspired mascot with a skirt shaped like an open shuttlecock, will be part of New Delhi’s BWF World Championships preparations.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Badminton Association of India president Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the mascot alongside the tournament anthem. The track brings together India’s 16-member contingent off court, including PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and draws on Delhi’s street-rap culture.

More than 400 shuttlers from over 50 countries are expected for the championships. Sindhu, a five-time World Championships medallist, will lead India’s challenge alongside former medallists Sen, Rankireddy and Shetty; Ayush Shetty and Unnati Hooda are also named among the emerging players.

The tournament returns to India after 17 years. Delhi has already begun venue preparations at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, including measures to keep pigeons and monkeys out of the arena.
