Ghaziabad police probe video alleging passport-verification bribe

A video alleging that a police officer sought Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 during a passport address-verification visit has prompted an inquiry in Ghaziabad.

The clip surfaced on social media on August 14. It appears to show an officer speaking with a man at his home about passport documents before allegedly seeking money as a commission.

Posts shared with the video claimed the officer was posted at Indirapuram police station. ACP Suryabali Maurya said this was incorrect. He said police had identified the officer, who is not currently posted at the station, and that the video appeared to be old.

Police will examine when and where the recording was made, the circumstances of the interaction and its authenticity.
