Delhi PWD to inspect 139 waterlogging hotspots by August 31

Delhi’s Public Works Department has assigned senior officers to inspect 139 waterlogging locations identified by Delhi Traffic Police after rain events up to August 24.

The locations include Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, MG Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, Mahipalpur Bypass Road, Nangloi-Najafgarh Road, Jahangirpuri Metro Station, Model Town and Lala Jagat Narain Marg. New Rohtak Road, Burari’s 100 Feet Road, Prembari Underpass, RTR Marg and Najafgarh-Kapashera Road are also on the list.

Officers will examine drains and outfall points, silt and blockages, pumps, encroachments and other obstructions at each location.

Chief engineers and superintending engineers must submit location-wise findings to the PWD principal secretary by August 31. The reports are to include immediate measures and longer-term work for roads where waterlogging repeatedly disrupts traffic.

PWD has also issued logo-marked jackets and raincoats to pump-house operators, pump operators and field engineers as part of its effort to assign responsibility for operational lapses.
