Rahul Gandhi backs Nishu Aazad over alleged assault on her father during CJP protest

Nishu Aazad, a protester at Jantar Mantar, has sought help after alleging that her father was attacked during a CJP protest and that Delhi Police has not acted on the case.

Aazad said her father suffered a head injury that required stitches. She said an FIR was registered more than a month and a half ago against Swatantra Bhardwaj, and referred to a video circulating online that she said showed him admitting to the assault. She alleged that police had kept the family occupied with medical examinations rather than taking action.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to her appeal on X, writing: “Nishu, there’s no need to panic. I’m with you.” He criticised Delhi Police and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah over the alleged lack of action.

The allegations and the claimed video have not been independently verified. There was no information on any police action following Gandhi’s intervention.
