Rahul Gandhi stages sit-in outside Parliament Street police station over July 20 pellet injuries

Rahul Gandhi sat outside Parliament Street police station with 19-year-old Sahil Lochab on August 21, pressing Delhi Police to register an FIR over alleged pellet-gun use during the July 20 protest over the NEET paper leak.

Lochab suffered injuries to his eyes and abdomen during police action and later underwent surgery at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Gandhi and Lochab had first gone to Mandir Marg police station before meeting the deputy commissioner of police at Parliament Street.

The Congress said Lochab submitted a written complaint with lawyers on August 14 and followed it up on August 17, but had not received an investigating officer number or acknowledgement. The party said the alleged offence was cognisable and required an FIR.

Police barricaded the area and shut the police station gates as Congress workers attempted to enter while raising slogans. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also arrived at the station and joined workers outside the gates. The Rapid Action Force was called in.

The sit-in follows Supreme Court proceedings on alleged police excesses during the July 20 protest, including a proposed panel to examine the allegations.
