Delhi rain waterlogs NH-48 and Dwarka roads, slows airport traffic

Waterlogging on NH-48 near IGI Airport, Mahipalpur, Sangam Vihar and parts of Dwarka slowed traffic after Saturday’s rain. Some residents waded through knee-deep water.

Delhi Police said waterlogging affected Road No. 210 between Rotary Chowk and DJB Chowk/Office, as well as the route towards Omaxe in Dwarka. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 37.3 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m., followed by 29.8 mm until 5.30 p.m.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected waterlogged areas near Sadbhavna Park in east Delhi and directed officials to deploy pumps. Senior Delhi government officials also surveyed the route between Bharat Mandapam and IGI Airport ahead of the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13.

Waterlogging outside the airport’s domestic and international terminals on Friday delayed passengers near T2 and T3. The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms or lightning, on Sunday.
