Rajnagar Extension residents seek Hum-Tum Road construction, drain cleaning

Large potholes filled with drain water and rainwater are making Hum-Tum Road difficult to navigate, residents of seven housing societies in Rajnagar Extension say.

The link road connects high-rise societies and nearby villages with the Outer Ring Road and Meerut. Manoj Agarwal of the RNE Flat Owners Federation said e-rickshaws had overturned on the stretch several times, injuring passengers, and that commuters had reported frequent accidents.

Last week, residents submitted a memorandum to the Ghaziabad Development Authority vice-chairperson and the municipal corporation, seeking construction of the road and cleaning of the adjoining drain. They say waterlogging has left parts of the route difficult to use.

Residents said the GDA had earlier planned an 8-metre-wide road. They opposed the proposal and sought a road at least 24 metres wide to serve the area’s growing population. The Hum Tum Road Welfare Association said a foundation stone had been laid and the tender process completed, and is seeking the start of construction.
