Rao Inderjit Singh asks Haryana CM to fix Gurgaon’s recurring waterlogging

Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh has asked Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to address recurring waterlogging and identify officials responsible for assurances that flooding would be avoided this monsoon.

At a meeting at Saini’s Chandigarh residence on Wednesday, Singh said temporary interventions would not resolve Gurgaon’s drainage problems. He said construction over natural stormwater channels, altered water routes and encroachments had blocked parts of the drainage network.

Singh sought an impartial survey of natural channels, removal of encroachments and a joint approach by MCG and GMDA. He also proposed pipelines to carry surplus rainwater to artificial lakes and storage areas around Najafgarh drain, Sultanpur and Damdama lake, along with rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge measures.

He also raised garbage accumulation during the sanitation workers’ strike, saying rain had worsened sanitation conditions as waste decomposed. Saini said the concerns would be considered while a plan for waterlogging and sanitation problems is prepared.
