Red Fort rehearsal to bring morning traffic curbs across parts of Delhi on Thursday

Delhi’s Independence Day preparations will reshape the morning commute around the Red Fort on Thursday, with road closures and diversions expected from about 4am to 10am for the full-dress rehearsal.

The traffic plan is expected to affect routes through Old Delhi, central Delhi and the Red Fort area. Restrictions will also apply to interstate buses and goods vehicles, while arrangements have been planned for access to hospitals and major railway stations.

Commuters heading towards these areas have been advised to plan trips in advance and allow extra time. The restrictions come as security arrangements are stepped up ahead of the August 15 celebrations.

Gurugram is also set to restrict heavy vehicles travelling towards Delhi between August 12 and 15. That could add pressure to other entry routes into the capital, particularly during peak travel periods. The tighter traffic plan begins with Thursday’s Red Fort rehearsal.
