Delhi Half Marathon medal unveiled; race set for October 18

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the finisher’s medal for the 21st Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon on Wednesday, ahead of the October 18 race.

The World Athletics Gold Label event will be flagged off from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Organisers expect thousands of runners from India and abroad to take part.

Every runner who completes the race will receive the medal, which organisers said is made from pure zinc sourced from Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar mines in Udaipur.

Gupta said the growth in women’s participation was encouraging and described large races as a way to bring people across age groups and abilities into physical activity. She also noted the participation of persons with disabilities.

The Delhi government will work with stakeholders associated with the event to support its conduct, Gupta said. Organisers have linked this edition to the #RunForZeroHunger campaign, which supports efforts to provide food to children and animals in need.
