Satya Niketan building collapse: Rescue operation under way near DU South Campus

A building collapsed in Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus around 1.30pm on Sunday, bringing police, fire crews and disaster-response teams to the site near Nanakpura Gurdwara.

Delhi Police said it received a PCR call at 1.34pm and that two people had been rescued. Search operations were continuing, while the number of people trapped or injured remained unclear.

The building was used as paying-guest accommodation. Satya Niketan has a large student population because of its proximity to the university’s South Campus.

Delhi Fire Services, the NDRF, DDMA, MCD, Civil Defence teams and CATS ambulances were deployed. An excavator and other equipment were brought in to clear concrete slabs and girders. The adjoining building was evacuated as a precaution, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
