Retired IAF officer alleges iron-rod attack in Gurugram parking dispute

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who served in the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil conflict, has alleged that a parking attendant hit him with an iron rod at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram on Thursday night.

Gupta said he had arrived at Gonzo restaurant for a family dinner and, at about 8pm, was sent between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking while looking for a space. When he tried to reverse his car, an attendant allegedly struck the windshield. Gupta said that after he stepped out to protest, the attendant hit his hand and head with an iron rod and threatened him.

He said a chef intervened after security personnel and other parking staff did not help. Gupta was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery to fix his elbow with plates, he said.

In his complaint, Gupta has sought an FIR for attempted murder and grievous hurt. He has also alleged that police did not reach the spot for about half an hour after he called the helpline, and that the hospital’s medico-legal report omitted his bleeding and elbow injury.
