Russian embassy spokesperson voices optimism ahead of BRICS talks in New Delhi

Petr Sizov, press secretary at the Russian Embassy in India, said he expected important issues to be taken up at BRICS meetings in New Delhi, describing the grouping’s cooperation as increasingly strong.

Speaking in Hindi, Sizov said, “Main umeed karta hu ki yeh sabse jabardast community hoga,” or that he hoped it would be a great community. He referred to Putin’s remarks at the BRICS Business Forum, where the Russian president said BRICS countries had produced more than 40% of global GDP over the previous five years.

Putin and Modi also discussed closer trade ties and the Programme for Economic Cooperation 2030, along with cooperation in infrastructure, energy, technology, defence and culture. Modi asked the BRICS Business Council to identify the top 10 trade barriers among member countries and called for support for 100 BRICS startups each year to expand into other member markets.

The New Delhi gathering follows India’s preparations for the 2026 BRICS summit.
