Satya Niketan PG operator seeks bail in building collapse case

Shubham Tyagi, a co-operator of a paying-guest facility in Satya Niketan, told a Delhi court on Wednesday that construction was not underway in the part of the building he operated.

The building collapsed four days earlier, killing seven people. Delhi Police opposed Tyagi’s anticipatory bail plea and told the court that custodial interrogation was needed for the investigation. Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler reserved the order after hearing the defence and prosecution.

Tyagi’s counsel said construction was taking place elsewhere in the building and argued that investigators had already collected the evidence. The defence said police had arrested other building owners, their son, a contractor and PG co-operator Shudhanshu Lovneesh.

Police said Tyagi and Lovneesh operated PG accommodation under the name Hostel Daze from four floors of the collapsed building. Investigators said the two had leased the floors in August 2025 for just over Rs 1 lakh a month despite the building’s dilapidated condition. Police are also tracing other PG operators and labour contractors linked to the building.
