Satya Niketan women’s PG asks residents to leave ahead of sealing drive

Himanshi Aggarwal, a Maitreyi College student from Assam, is waiting two days for her parents to return by train after the women’s PG where she stays in Satya Niketan asked residents to leave.

The five-storey facility is about 300 metres from the building that collapsed on Sunday. Students said the warden told them the PG could be sealed at any time as authorities prepare action against unauthorised structures in the south-west Delhi locality.

Of an estimated 40 residents, 22 remained at the PG. Others had already left for their hometowns after the collapse. Several students have packed essential belongings and arranged to stay with friends or relatives.

Prajakta, a first-year student, said she had paid ₹48,000 for a twin-occupancy room: ₹16,000 for the current month and two months’ rent as a security deposit. She said residents had not been given a date for closure, but were asked to leave as soon as possible.

The uncertainty affects outstation students in Satya Niketan who have paid rent and deposits in advance while colleges remain open.
