Scuffle in northeast Delhi MCD chairman’s office after Congress councillor enters while being chased

Congress councillor Hazi Zarif entered MCD zone chairman Pankaj Luthra’s office in northeast Delhi around 3.30pm on Wednesday while being chased by several people, setting off a scuffle inside the room.

Luthra, a BJP leader, said two people fought in his office and that those present intervened to separate them. He denied that any BJP councillor or party member was involved.

Video from the room appears to show a chair being thrown while two police personnel try to protect a person. Furniture and other property in the office were damaged as several people gathered there.

An associate of Zarif alleged that AAP members had attacked the councillor. The allegation has not been verified, and Zarif did not comment. The confrontation followed claims that industrial units linked to AAP members had been sealed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee over environmental-law violations; claims that a complaint by Congress leaders led to the action have also not been verified.
