Sector 47 residents report foul-smelling tap water in Noida

Dirty, foul-smelling water reached taps in Noida’s Sector 47 on Tuesday evening, residents said. They said supply had appeared normal on Tuesday morning after a pipeline-flushing exercise on Monday.

Avanish Singh, who lodged a complaint with the Noida Authority on Monday, said households in the sector had faced the problem intermittently for the past two to three years. The Sector 47 residents’ welfare association said it was receiving complaints from multiple homes and asked the Authority to test the water and share the results.

Prem Sen, senior manager at the Noida Authority’s Jal Vibhag, said pipelines were flushed on Monday to clear residual dirt. He said water and sewer lines are separate and added that dirt can be drawn into a line when residents run motors during a break in supply. The Authority tests the safety of Noida’s water supply every month, he said.

In a notice issued on Monday, the water division said encroachments above buried supply lines made it difficult to trace damaged or leaking connections. The notice said complaints about dirty water could not be resolved until those issues were addressed.
