Gurugram Sector 70A road blocked during drain work, residents say

For more than four months, excavation at the junction of Sector 70A’s 60-metre and 24-metre roads has prevented normal use of the crossing, residents say.

Residents describe the 24-metre road as the area’s main link to the wider road network. They say vehicles, school buses and office commuters have been diverted to a poorly maintained 10-metre-wide revenue road, which becomes congested at peak hours and waterlogged during the monsoon.

Residents of BPTP Astaire Garden and M3M Escala also said the work had damaged a nearby green belt and that the pit was left open without barricading. They estimate that more than 5,000 families in at least five condominiums have been affected.

Aruni Shukla of BPTP Astaire Garden said no temporary arrangement had been made to ease access while the work continued.

A GMDA official said drain-laying and footpath construction were under way but had paused during the monsoon. The official said the drainage component was almost complete and work was expected to resume in September. GMDA will send a team to inspect the junction and cover the pit if it remains open.
