Mumbai: Seven ChatGPT prompts for 1980s festive photo edits

Ganesh pandals lit with flowers, an old Mumbai market lined with sweet shops and a family train journey with gift boxes feature in seven ChatGPT prompts imagining festive Mumbai in the 1980s.

The prompts cover Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami, Eid and Christmas, as well as festive shopping and a family-album-style portrait. Users are asked to upload a photograph and instruct the tool to retain their face and key features; one prompt also asks that body proportions be retained.

The scenes specify period clothing, vintage signage, old scooters, railway coaches, diyas, rangoli and old-Mumbai architecture. Several ask for the look of consumer-film photographs rather than polished digital images, using mild grain, soft flash, slight motion blur, warm colours and imperfect composition.

One prompt depicts a Janmashtami neighbourhood celebration with a decorated matki, while another places a family outside a home prepared for Eid. The Christmas scene includes paper decorations, a traditional tree and warm lights. The family-album prompt asks users to exclude modern objects and contemporary clothing.
