Udyog Vihar Phase 3 traffic slows after Shankar Road turn closure

The closure of the direct right turn towards Udyog Vihar Phase 3 has shifted a morning bottleneck from Shankar Road into the industrial hub’s internal roads.

Drivers approaching from Shankar Chowk must now continue to the next traffic signal, turn towards Phase 4 or make a U-turn to reach Phase 3. The change is most felt between 8.30am and 11am, when office cabs, cars, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles converge at the junction.

For Naina, who works in Phase 3, the trip from the main road can take longer as parked vehicles narrow the carriageway and cabs stop for pickups and drops. Sunil Shehrawat said his journey from the Ambience Mall side to his office in Sector 20 now usually takes 25-30 minutes.

Pedestrians contend with discontinuous walking paths, landscaping and fencing along some stretches. Motorists driving on the wrong side to bypass the diversion also conflict with oncoming traffic, including heavy vehicles.

Traffic personnel are deployed during peak hours. ACP Satypal Yadav, the traffic police spokesperson, said teams are analysing traffic conditions inside Udyog Vihar to develop a “scientific solution”.
