Sir Ganga Ram Hospital says it removed 2.5kg adrenal tumour

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi said its doctors removed a 24cm adrenal tumour weighing 2.5kg from a patient, separating the mass from the pancreas, spleen and colon.

Doctors said the tumour occupied a substantial part of the patient’s abdominal cavity and lay close to organs and blood vessels. Its size had altered the normal anatomy, requiring detailed planning and careful dissection, they said.

Uro-oncologist and robotic surgeon Dr Ashwin Mallya led the operation with senior gastro and liver surgeon Dr Suresh Singhvi. Anaesthetist Dr Nitin Sethi managed blood-pressure fluctuations during the procedure, while endocrinologist Dr Setu Gupta helped stabilise the patient beforehand.

The hospital said the patient has been discharged and will require regular follow-up and monitoring.
