Six booked over alleged power theft in Gautam Budh Nagar

Six people were booked after electricity department teams detected six alleged power theft cases in Gautam Budh Nagar, including one involving an allegedly altered cable connection before a meter.

Joint enforcement and raid teams detected a combined alleged theft load of 18.193 kW during inspections on Wednesday in Dhoom Manikpur, Mahawad, Escort Colony in Dadri and Ranhera village. FIRs were registered under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003.

In Ranhera, officials said a consumer had allegedly cut a cable and added another connection before the meter to draw power. The largest assessed load, 6 kW, was found at a consumer’s premises in Dadri.

Sanjay Jain, chief engineer for the Noida zone at Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, said inspections would continue, particularly in areas with high line losses. Residents can report suspected power theft through the Bijli Mitra portal.
