Six hurt after car hits concrete barriers at AIT Chowk in Gurugram

Six people, including two children, were injured when their Hyundai Exter struck concrete barriers at the AIT Chowk U-turn near Sector 55 on Golf Course Road early on August 20.

The car was travelling towards Sikanderpur from Golf Course Extension Road when it hit barriers placed to create the U-turn, police said. Commuters pulled the occupants from the damaged vehicle and took them to a private hospital on Golf Course Extension Road. Their families later shifted them to Delhi for further treatment; the injuries were described as non-fatal.

Kunal Chawla, who was driving, said poor lighting, oncoming vehicle lights and the lack of warning signs or reflective tape meant he could not spot the barriers in time. He said everyone in the car had been wearing seatbelts and the airbags deployed.

Gurugram Police recorded a diary entry at Sector 56 police station after receiving a control-room alert. Police said no complaint had been filed and traffic officials could inspect the location if required.
