Six rescued after PG building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan

Six people were rescued after a building used for paying-guest accommodation collapsed near Shiv Mandir in Satya Niketan at 1.33 pm on Sunday.

Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority began rescue work at the site. Eight fire tenders were deployed, while JCB machines were brought in to clear debris. Police moved people away from the area as teams worked.

Officials said the structure, estimated to be 40 to 50 years old, had a basement and five upper floors. Basement repair work was under way when it collapsed. Officials had not confirmed how many people, if any, remained trapped.

Student volunteers from Delhi University also assisted at the site. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to provide assistance and remained in contact with the district magistrate, police and NDRF teams.

The search operation continued on Sunday afternoon.
