South Delhi roadworks squeeze Ring Road and Outer Ring Road traffic

Three feet of carriageway have been taken up opposite Sarai Kale Khan ISBT as PWD completes the loop for the Barapullah Elevated Road, narrowing the Ring Road towards Ashram and Lajpat Nagar for the next couple of weeks.

The pinch point sits beside the ISBT, RRTS and Metro stations, and a Nizamuddin railway station gate, where traffic from Ghaziabad, east and north Delhi merges before moving towards south Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram. Traffic police said they have issued an advisory.

On the Ashram-to-Kilokari carriageway, PWD is re-carpeting the road after Delhi Jal Board renovation work. The stretch is used by traffic from Lajpat Nagar towards Sarai Kale Khan, Barapullah and Noida, and is expected to be completed before August ends.

Further south, PWD construction between the Modi Mill and Bhairav Temple flyovers is affecting the Outer Ring Road. Barricades for a DMRC project between Chirag Delhi flyover and Siri Fort intersection have also reduced space on Josip Broz Tito Marg.

Anurag Kaushik, a Mayur Vihar Phase-II businessman, said a two- to three-kilometre trip on the corridor can take 30 to 45 minutes. Repairs to the Nehru Nagar, AIIMS and Barapullah Phase-I flyovers are due to begin next month.
