Bengaluru students clear 1 km stretch near Jakkur Lake

Students from Kristu Jayanti University cleared waste and weeds along more than 1 km of Jakkur Lake’s road bund, where litter can be carried into the water by the breeze.

Jalaposhan Trust facilitated the plogging and deweeding drive. Founder Annapurna S Kamath said the team cleared waste from the bund and made a weed-covered footpath usable. Students from the university’s Centre for Social Activities took part as part of a wider volunteer effort at Bengaluru parks.

Jagan J, a Bagalur Cross resident, said plastic waste continues to appear around the lake despite regular clean-ups. “When I see litter around the place where we walk, it is a big deal to step in and make a difference,” he said.

Separate waste-segregation and volunteering sessions were held in Doddakallasandra, Girinagar and Rajajinagar. Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, families and children also joined an eco-friendly Ganesha idol-making session at Dhanvanthari Park in JP Nagar.
