Delhi T3 Pier C begins international operations before BRICS summit

Pier C at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Terminal 3 began phased international operations on Wednesday night, ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Delhi.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said it has repurposed the pier, previously used for domestic flights, without new construction. International arrivals and departures are planned from Thursday evening as leaders, senior delegations, business representatives and heads of international organisations are expected for the September 11-13 summit.

DIAL said it is coordinating with the CISF, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, airlines, ground-handling agencies, immigration and customs for airport operations during the event. Pier C can accommodate next-generation and wide-body aircraft.

Once fully operational, Pier C is expected to increase IGI Airport’s annual international passenger-handling capacity by 50% to 31 million passengers, according to DIAL. As operations expand, some international arrivals and departures at T3 may be routed through Pier C.
