Thane Coastal Road-1 reaches 40% completion, MMRDA says

Work on Thane Coastal Road-1 has reached 40% completion in 14 months, with 332 of its 426 working piles finished by September 2, the MMRDA said.

The authority said 277 piers have been completed and 460 pier caps cast. Contractors have also erected 501 of the planned 1,632 I-girders, while 13 deck-slab spans are complete.

The 13.45-km, six-lane access-controlled road will run between Kharegaon Toll Naka and Gaimukh. Major portions are planned on viaducts and bridges, including an 8.11-km elevated stretch through mangrove areas and a 240-metre bridge across the creek.

MMRDA has described it as a freight corridor linking NH-160, the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, with Gaimukh along the Thane Creek coast. A 40-45 metre-wide Development Plan road has been reserved to separate local and inter-city vehicles on Ghodbunder Road.

At Gaimukh, the road is planned to join the upcoming Gaimukh-Fountain Hotel Tunnel, connecting the route onwards towards Thane and Bhayander. It is also planned to integrate with the Thane Ring Metro, Thane Coastal Road-2, Saket-Amane Elevated Corridor and Kasarvadavali-Kharbhav Road.
