Thane Coastal Road-1 reaches 40% progress; 332 piles complete

Thane Coastal Road-1 has completed 332 of its 426 planned working piles, taking the 13.45-km project from Kharegaon Toll Plaza to Gaymukh to 40% physical progress after 14 months.

As of September 2, contractors had built 277 piers, or 65% of the planned total. They had also cast 460 pier caps, installed 501 of 1,632 I-girders and completed 13 deck-slab spans.

The six-lane, access-controlled corridor uses a single-pile, single-pier arrangement and monopile foundations. It includes an 8.11-km elevated stretch through a mangrove belt and a 240-metre creek bridge. The elevated alignment is intended to limit impacts on the sensitive area.

Plans include a 40- to 45-metre-wide service road to separate local traffic from longer trips on Ghodbunder Road. At Gaymukh, the road is proposed to connect with the Gaymukh–Fountain Hotel tunnel towards Bhayandar, as well as Thane Coastal Road-2, the Saket–Aamne elevated corridor and the Kasarvadavli–Kharbav Road.
