Three held after builder’s death in alleged staged robbery case in south Delhi

A 55-year-old builder was found dead at his home on Ratiya Marg in south Delhi on August 10. Police allege that his death was staged to resemble a robbery.

Munna Lal was taken to AIIMS early that day, where he was declared brought dead. Police said the home appeared ransacked, with drawers open and clothes scattered. His wife initially told officers that intruders may have entered through the terrace.

Police said forensic examination indicated that Lal had been drugged, assaulted and strangled. Investigators also alleged that someone had tried to remove blood traces from the floor.

CCTV footage from nearby lanes showed a masked person entering the premises at about 1.45am and leaving around 3.15am, police said. Officers alleged that Lal’s 45-year-old wife, Manju, and her alleged 20-year-old partner, Chaman, planned the killing. A third man, Kishan, has been arrested on allegations of harbouring the accused.

South district police said they seized Rs 15,000 in cash. The allegations will be tested during the investigation and court process.
