Three-year-old hurt by kite string in Maujpur while riding on scooter

A three-year-old boy suffered a neck injury when a loose kite string became entangled around him as he rode pillion on a two-wheeler in Maujpur, northeast Delhi, on Wednesday.

The child and his 17-year-old brother had gone out to buy snacks and were returning to Vijay Mohalla when the string caught the boy’s neck. His brother stopped the vehicle, removed the string and took him home after seeing that he was bleeding. The family later took the child to a nearby clinic; he is now fine.

Police said they learned of the incident from locals. The family plans to submit a complaint once the boy feels better, and police said an FIR would be registered after his statement is recorded.

It is the second kite-string injury reported in Delhi within a week. Police data records two deaths and 12 injuries linked to Chinese manjha in the city this year; the type of string involved in the Maujpur injury has not been specified.
