Traffic police mark 21 Delhi stretches as repeat waterlogging trouble spots

Pul Prahladpur, Zakhira and Minto Bridge underpasses are among 21 Delhi locations identified by traffic police as repeat waterlogging trouble spots this monsoon.

Police recorded 72 waterlogged roads and stretches between July 2 and August 7, compared with 169 in 2025 and 194 in 2024. South Delhi had the highest total this year, with 24 affected locations; the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road alone had at least 12, including Jamia Hamdard T-Point, Devli Mor T-Point and the Pul Prahladpur underpass.

Other repeat locations include Utsav Park in Patparganj, Purana Quila Road-C-Hexagon, the Punjabi Bagh flyover on Balbir Singh Sandhu Marg and Mayapur Chowk on Ring Road. Traffic personnel send photographs and videos from affected roads to the control room, which relays them to the MCD, PWD and NDMC.

NDMC said drainage repairs, desilting and additional pumps had prevented recent waterlogging at Janpath-Tolstoy Marg, near Tibetan Market, Africa Avenue, Satya Marg and Panchsheel Marg. Officials have attributed recurring flooding across the city to ageing drains, silt and garbage, inadequate drainage design, low-lying roads and maintenance gaps.
