Transformer failure triggers repeated power cuts in Gurgaon industrial belts

A failed transformer at the 220kV HVPNL power house in Sector 33 has left factories across Gurgaon’s industrial belts coping with repeated power cuts for the past three days.

Manufacturers in Sectors 33, 34 and 37 said they have faced two to three outages a day, generally lasting about an hour. For units running automated or precision processes, the disruption can stretch beyond the cut itself: production lines must be restarted and stabilised after power returns.

Industry representatives said the sudden shutdowns have delayed production, dispatches and movement of raw material, while creating risks for machinery, tooling and equipment. They also said advance notice of outages would allow factories to complete production cycles, switch off machines safely and reorganise shifts.

HVPNL manages the transmission infrastructure, while DHBVN supplies electricity to consumers. Industrialists have sought an early repair of the failed transformer, an alternative power arrangement until repairs are completed, and a formal system to alert units about outages and their expected duration.

A DHBVN official denied any coordination problem between the agencies and said supply would be normalised soon.
