Bengaluru family awaits news of couple out of contact in Tibet floods

Relatives in Bengaluru are awaiting news of a couple who they say has been out of contact since floods hit the Gyirong immigration centre in Tibet.

The couple, both in their early 40s, live in Florida in the United States. They travelled to Bengaluru to leave their two daughters with family before beginning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The daughters are now staying with relatives in the city.

A family member said the couple had reached the immigration centre at 9.05am, based on their last known mobile activity, but had not called or sent a message afterwards. The family member said Isha Foundation confirmed that the pair were among 77 pilgrims at the centre when the floods hit.

The family says the couple has been uncontactable since Wednesday.
