Two BMC K/West ward staff held in alleged ₹60,000 bribe case

Vijay Patil, a K/West ward staff member, was allegedly caught accepting ₹60,000 near the ground-floor lift at the ward office in Andheri West during an Anti-Corruption Bureau trap.

The Mumbai ACB booked and apprehended Patil, 46, and Niravkumar Jaisur, 43, a BMC sub-engineer, over an alleged demand for money from a 50-year-old bakery operator. The operator approached the ACB after Patil allegedly sought ₹70,000 for himself and Jaisur so that the bakery could continue operating without regulatory action.

During verification, the ACB said Patil arranged a meeting between the complainant and Jaisur. After negotiations, Jaisur allegedly demanded ₹60,000, according to the agency.

Patil was apprehended during the trap operation on Wednesday. Jaisur was taken into custody from his office. The ACB said it seized a mobile phone and ₹40,820 from Patil, as well as ₹2.37 lakh found in his bag. Two mobile phones were seized during Jaisur’s personal search.

The Mumbai ACB has registered a case.
