Two Gurugram foot overbridges near schools to be removed for Metro work

Two foot overbridges used by students near Alpine Public School in Sector 9 and Greenwood Public School in Sector 10 will be dismantled for Gurugram’s upcoming Metro corridor.

The crossings lie near Basai Pond, on the planned stretch between Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Basai Flyover, where a Metro station is also proposed. GMDA has permitted Gurgaon Metro Rail Ltd (GMRL) to remove them after the agency said the structures were infringing on the corridor alignment.

Both foot overbridges were built in 2023 under a Rs 114-crore road project that included road widening between Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Dwarka Expressway, a flyover and a rail overbridge across the Delhi-Rewari line. They were intended to provide safer crossings for people around the schools, Basai Pond and adjoining residential areas.

In an August 12 communication, GMDA directed GMRL to construct and commission two replacement foot overbridges at approved locations on the same corridor. GMRL will pay for dismantling, replacement construction, and the transport and storage of removed material.

The affected crossings are used by residents of Sectors 37C, 37D, 9, 9A and 10. No timeline for removing the existing structures or opening the replacements has been stated.
