Bengaluru: Two remanded in KPSC recruitment case

IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and Basavaraj Kannale were remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody in the Karnataka Public Service Commission recruitment case.

A local court passed the order after their 10-day custody with the Criminal Investigation Department ended. They were sent to Central Prison.

Gangwar, a 2016-batch Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, served as KPSC’s controller of examinations during the veterinary officer recruitment drive now under investigation. CID has alleged that question papers were leaked and OMR sheets were manipulated through an alleged job-for-cash network.

Investigators estimate that more than Rs 12 crore was collected from candidates, with alleged payments of Rs 70 lakh to Rs 80 lakh for each post. CID said it recovered digital material and diaries listing candidate names, and traced financial transfers to bank accounts linked to the alleged operation.

CID also searched locations including the residence of suspended KPSC chairperson Shivashankarappa Sahukar. The agency plans forensic scrutiny of hundreds of OMR sheets and will question candidates named in the investigation.
