Medanta underpass closes again as rain floods Gurgaon roads

A two-hour spell of overnight rain closed the Medanta underpass again, while commuters moved slowly through standing water at Mahavir Chowk and several Gurgaon neighbourhoods.

Authorities barricaded the Medanta underpass after rainwater from the main road flowed onto its carriageway. It is the third closure caused by flooding this monsoon. NHAI deployed pumping machines and said an engineer will examine the site’s drainage arrangement, identify how to prevent overflow from the main road and recommend remedial work.

Water also collected on internal roads in Sectors 14 and 15, Old MG Road, Dhanwapur Road, Basai Road, Sheetla Mata Road and parts of the old city, including Arjun Nagar, Jyoti Park, New Colony and Kadipur. Kadipur and Harsaru recorded 83mm of rain each, while Gurgaon tehsil recorded 75mm.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain over the next three days.
