Delhi: Two women arrested in alleged ₹1.30 lakh dating-app fraud

A 67-year-old man met two women for dinner at a Defence Colony restaurant on July 24. Delhi Police allege that his mobile phone was stolen before he left and ₹1.30 lakh was transferred through UPI from two bank accounts.

Police arrested Jyotsna, 26, and Manshi, 21, in connection with the case. Investigators allege that a fictitious dating-app profile was used to contact the man before the conversation moved to a messaging platform. The women had allegedly met him once earlier, on July 20. Police said Manshi met the man while posing as the person behind the online profile.

An e-FIR was registered at the southwest district cyber police station on July 25. Investigators examined beneficiary-account records, KYC documents, bank statements and CCTV footage, police said. The money was allegedly first sent to one woman’s account and then moved to the other’s; ₹90,000 was withdrawn at an ATM.

Police said CCTV footage of the ATM withdrawals and transaction analysis helped identify the two women. Two mobile phones have been recovered, and the investigation is continuing.
