Delhi Metro women’s coach offers rush-hour option, travellers say

For travel creators Clare Aurita and her companion, the first coach of a Delhi Metro train made crowded journeys more comfortable. The two women, who post travel content as @nomadiclovers_, said the women-only coach gave them a more relaxed option while travelling around Delhi.

In an Instagram post, they also pointed to baggage scanners, metal detectors and separate security queues for women at stations. They noted that stations are air-conditioned as well as trains, and described the network as cleaner and safer than several Western underground systems they had used.

The pair said the reserved coach is marked with pink signage on platforms. They acknowledged that some travellers may view separate coaches as an extreme measure, but said the option mattered to them during rush-hour journeys.
