Udyog Vihar liquor store gutted in afternoon fire; no injuries reported

Smoke rose from a closed liquor store in Udyog Vihar around 12.30pm on Saturday, drawing a fire response that took nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control.

The fire department received the call at 12.36pm and sent five tenders from the Sector 29, Sector 30, Udyog Vihar and Bhimnagar fire stations, along with one from Maruti Suzuki. Firefighters contained the flames before they could spread to neighbouring premises.

Liquor bottles and other stock inside the shop were extensively damaged, with losses estimated at lakhs. The store was shut for Independence Day, and officials said no one was trapped inside or injured.

Naresh Yadav, the Sector 29 fire station officer, said a short circuit in a refrigerator was suspected as the trigger, though the cause was still being examined. Officials said the alcohol stored in the shop intensified the fire.
