Bengaluru to begin vacant-plot cleaning drive on August 27

Only around one in five vacant-plot owners in some Bengaluru neighbourhoods met the August 22 deadline to clear their sites, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said.

Civic agencies will identify plots that need cleaning and issue notices to their owners. If owners do not comply, the agencies will carry out the work and recover the cost through property tax. Charges may range from ₹25,900 for a 20x30 site to ₹1,74,700 for a 50x80 site.

The drive is scheduled to begin on August 27 and gather pace from August 31. Officials have been asked to record geo-tagged before-and-after videos for each plot cleaned by civic agencies and document the work on the Clean It software.

Byre Gowda directed officials to send waste and debris from the sites to designated disposal locations, rather than leaving it along roadsides or on other vacant land. The GBA plans to add a feature to its Clean It app for residents to flag uncleaned vacant plots.
